Forty primary birthing facilities in Northern Mindanao (Region 10) that are accredited with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) are assessed in this study. Standard instruments of two government agencies and a checklist where the main instruments for this study, which gathered data through survey interviews with owners or key persons of each birthing facility. Results showed an imbalance of the number of birthing facilities in each province of the region. Many lapses and inadequacies were observed in the facilities in terms of their services, personnel, infrastructure, equipment and supplies, hence, the main recommendation is to have continuous monitoring to ensure that what is required for each birthing facility to provide quality care and services is not only for accreditation purposes; instead, the provision of the highest quality care to the patients must always be the thrust of each birthing facility.
